On June 7, our ancestors celebrated one of the five annual holidays in honor of John the Baptist. This day in the folk calendar was called Midsummer's Day, Ivan the Baptist, Ivan Golovaty, Ivan the Honeydew, Ivan the Goose Man or Ferapotnov's Day.

It was not by chance that the day of June 7 was called honey dew - during this period, sticky dew with a sweet aftertaste could be observed on the herbs. Such powdery mildew covered vegetables, rye and herbs. They were considered a scourge by peasants because they dried plants, and our ancestors could not protect themselves from them. It was precisely to help fight honey dew that our ancestors asked John the Baptist. In fact, “honey dew” was the secretion of worms and aphids, which destroyed the plants.

  • If there is heavy dew at sunrise, the day will be clear and fine.
  • If there are a lot of flowers on the rowan tree, it means a rich harvest of oats.
  • If a swarm of bees circles around a blooming rowan tree, the next day it will be dry and clear.
  • If the rowan did not bloom on June 7, but began to bloom later, autumn will be cold.

Old style date: May 25

On June 7, 2018, the national holiday Ivan - Honeydew is celebrated. The Church today remembers the discovery of the head of the Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John.

The day got its name “Honey Dew” due to the fact that precipitation in the morning on this day has a honey flavor.

On this day, the Orthodox Church celebrates the third discovery of the head of John the Baptist, or John the Baptist. According to the Gospels, John was the closest predecessor of Jesus Christ, who predicted the coming of the Savior, and later baptized him in the waters of the Jordan.

John denounced many sinners for crimes against righteousness, including the tetrarch of Galilee, Herod Antipas, who took his brother’s wife Heroias from him and married her. Heroias, who disliked the saint, decided to take revenge on him. She persuaded her daughter Salome to ask Herod Antipas for the head of John the Baptist. He didn't dare refuse her. According to legend, Heroias did not allow the head of the Forerunner to be buried along with the body, but hid it in her palace. After this, the head was found several times - and lost again. The third discovery of the head of John falls on June 7 according to the modern calendar.

In Rus' it was believed that from this day on, “honey dew” appeared on plants.- sweet secretions of aphids and worms that feed on plant juices. They said about them: “Honey dew knows rust, spreads sweetly and eats away painfully”. It was believed that such “dew” caused harm to children, livestock, and plants. “Honey dew fell - pestilence spread to the cattle”, - people said. Cattle fought against pestilence in different ways - for example, they were forced to walk through the ashes of a fire.

At the same time, heavy dew - real, not “honey” - on this day foreshadowed a good harvest. “Without dew, grass does not grow”, - this is what they said about this. They also paid attention to other signs. If there were a lot of flowers on the rowan tree that day, they expected an oat harvest, but the late flowering of the rowan tree promised a long autumn.

According to signs, as much as there is dew in the morning, there will be as much flax and hemp.

If there is a lot of morning dew, it means it will be clear and warm all day.

In Russian, crowdfunding can be literally translated as “one piece at a time” (Photo: rvlsoft, Shutterstock)

On June 7, 2015, a new holiday was celebrated in Russia -. The date of the holiday was not chosen by chance; it was on June 7, 2012 that one of the first Russian crowdfunding services, the website Planeta.ru, officially began operating.

Let us remind you that crowdfunding (from the English crowd funding, crowd - “crowd”, funding - “financing”) is popular financing, or collective cooperation of people who voluntarily donate / invest their money, usually via the Internet, to provide financial support any project or organization. In Russian, crowdfunding can be literally translated as “one piece at a time.”

The purposes for which funds can be collected through the crowdfunding scheme are completely different in modern society - the sale of a product (creation of a book, CD, film...), assistance to victims of natural disasters, any charity event, support from fans, financing a start-up -companies, small businesses, private businesses, political campaigns and much more.

We can say that crowdfunding is one of the modern ways to attract financial resources, and today it is a really working model, the success of which has already been confirmed by specific examples. After all, for entrepreneurs it has become a real alternative in raising money for their new or existing business, as well as for financing new products or services. The scheme for receiving funds consists of pooling various amounts from a large number of people, be it a contribution of 100 rubles or more than 1 million.

In general, at its core, crowdfunding is a very ancient phenomenon. When a person has some interesting idea or project, and he can interest other people in it, then they “chip in” for the implementation of this plan. In ordinary life, we use crowdfunding when we chip in with friends for barbecues, with neighbors to install an intercom, with classmates to buy a bouquet for a teacher... But with the invention of the Internet, crowdfunding has expanded greatly and allows us to obtain financing for grandiose projects without the participation of banks and others financial institutions. The process has become much simpler and more democratic.

But it's important to remember that crowdfunding has a few rules. First of all, this is a clearly stated goal and a designated amount of money. People should immediately see and understand where they are investing their money. Information about the progress of fundraising should also be open to everyone. It can be said that crowdfunding requires trust and creativity.

This practice has existed abroad for more than 20 years, and there are many successful examples of crowdfunding there. Thus, back in 1997, fans of the British rock band Marillion organized and conducted an Internet campaign to raise funds to finance the group’s musical tour throughout the United States. The group itself later used this method to record and promote several of their albums. The first crowdfunding site for music was ArtistShare in 2000, and others followed. In the new millennium, crowdfunding in the West has become used literally everywhere.

In Russia, crowdfunding is also rapidly gaining popularity; it is already actively used as a channel for raising funds for their projects by non-profit organizations, creative people, politicians, and commercial structures...

One of the successful examples of this phenomenon in Russia and the first services for collective financing of projects on the Runet can be called Planeta.ru. According to the founders, “Planet” has become a virtual space that changes reality and provides new opportunities for creativity and social activity.

Max Latmus, co-founder and ideologist of Planeta.ru:
“The future can be whatever we want it to be. Filled with what you and I want to create. The Internet space is not only a knowledge base accumulated over centuries of human existence, it is a projection of your thoughts and ideas. Today, the Internet gives us unprecedented freedom of action, new tools and opportunities, including services that allow us to finance projects online... That’s why we came up with “Planet” - a unique tool with which you can participate in the creation of music, films, books, inventions or other interesting, ingenious, important projects that the collective financing service can help".

Fedor Murachkovsky, CEO and co-founder of Planeta.ru:
“We have determined for ourselves that Planet is a social service ecosystem that helps monetize ideas, creativity and original content in various ways. … Our mission is to simplify as much as possible the relationship between authors and their supporters, between generators of ideas and those who are interested in these ideas, and to promote people’s self-realization. We want to teach people how to effectively implement their ideas and projects. In 2014, “Planet” received the “Runet Prize -2014” in the category “Economy, Business and Investments”, I believe this is recognition both from Runet experts and ordinary people, which means our decision to make a similar project in Russia was true."

Over the six years of Planeta.ru’s existence, more than 840 million rubles have been collected through this service, and more than 3 thousand projects have been successfully implemented. Most of the projects fall into the creative and business categories. The areas of technology and social entrepreneurship are actively developing. More than 600 thousand people are registered on the site. Planeta.ru is actively developing the educational direction in crowdfunding: in 2015, a “Crowdfunding School” was opened in Moscow; in 2016, Planeta.ru organized the First All-Russian “Crowdfunding School” in the regions; in 2017, an educational special project “Battle of Technologies” was implemented for hardware startups in partnership with RVC.

Do you have an interesting idea? Make it a reality with crowdfunding!

Bas-relief with the name Branimir

(Dan hrvatske diplomacije) is celebrated in the Republic annually on June 7, in memory of the anniversary of the first ever international recognition of Croatia as a sovereign state.

It was on June 7, 879 that Pope John III sent a letter to “dear son Branimir, the Croatian bishop Theodosius, the Croatian priesthood and the Croats,” in which he approved and promised protection of the Croatian political strategy. With this letter, the Pope responded to the previous request of Knez Branimir (Branimir, 879-892) and blessed “the Knez, the Croatian people and the Croatian state.”

According to the international law of the time, the concept of his universal dominance and his right to recognize the legitimacy of governments and rulers, this act meant the recognition of Knez Branimir as the legitimate ruler and Croatia as an independent state.

This event served as a reason to celebrate June 7 as the Day of Croatian Diplomacy, which can be considered, albeit unofficial, a professional holiday for diplomatic employees of the Republic. To date, Croatia has established and maintains diplomatic relations with 175 countries.

Flag of the Swedish-Norwegian Union

(Dissolution of union with Sweden / Unionsoppløsningen) is celebrated in Norway annually on June 7th, on this day the national flag is raised in the country.

Swedish-Norwegian Union 1814-1905 - state-legal unification of Sweden and Norway based on a real union. The union was imposed on Norway by Sweden by force of arms as a result of the Swedish-Norwegian War of 1814, and was a compromise between the Norwegian desire for independence, on the one hand, and Sweden's desire to compensate for the loss of Finland as a result of the war with Russia and Pomerania, on the other. Came into force on November 4, 1814 with the election of the Swedish King Charles XIII as King of Norway.

The relations of the parties to the union were regulated by the “State Act” (Riksakt) of August 6, 1815, adopted by the parliaments of both states. Sweden and Norway had a common diplomatic department, each country retained its own laws, administration, courts, and church. The Norwegian army (only Norwegian officers) was under the command of the king, but its use outside Norway required the sanction of the Norwegian Storting (a resolution adopted by three convocations of the Storting came into force despite the king's double suspensive veto).

The king's appointment of members of the Norwegian government was carried out on the recommendation of the Storting, which also retained the right to manage the country's finances and grant Norwegian citizenship. The Storting became the center of the Norwegian struggle against the union; its dissolution was also facilitated by the favorable position of Russia and Great Britain towards Norway.

On June 7, 1905, the Storting adopted a resolution to dissolve the union. During the plebiscite in Norway (August 13, 1905), about 369 thousand votes were cast for breaking the union (184 votes were for preserving it). The dissolution of the union was formalized by the peaceful Swedish-Norwegian Karlstad Agreements of 1905, and after that Norway gained full independence and its own king - Haakon VII.

In honor of this event, which became an important date in the history of Norway, today’s holiday was established - the so-called flag day, when the state flag is raised at government institutions and in other places provided for by law.

Norway celebrates Independence Day

After Denmark lost the war to England in 1814, it had to sacrifice its province of Norway, which was transferred to Sweden. The act of transfer was documented by the Swedish-Norwegian Union. As a matter of fact, no one really asked Norway for consent. Although officially she was subordinate to the Swedish king, in order to use the Norwegian military outside her native country, manage the state treasury or resolve issues with citizenship, it was necessary to enlist the support of the Norwegian Storting (Parliament). The Storting gradually became the center of the Norwegian struggle against the bonded union, and on June 7, 1905. adopted a resolution proposing to dissolve this very union. Norway and Sweden were one step away from war, but subsequent negotiations led the parties to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden was recognized and formalized.

June 7 in the folk calendar

June 7th was popularly dubbed as Honeydew. It was from this day that peasants began to inspect plants for the appearance of a sweet sticky liquid (honeydew) on them, which insect pests leave behind when they feed on plant sap. It was believed that if cattle ate grass with such “dew”, they would begin to wither and get sick. Therefore, various rituals were performed for domestic animals, amulets were made, and charms were cast against damage. If on the leaves and stems of plants that day there was not honey dew, but real dew, then this predicted a rich harvest. Moreover, it was believed that the more abundant the dew fell, the more abundant the harvest would be. On June 7, we also paid attention to the mountain ash. If by this day it had not yet bloomed, then late autumn was expected. If the tree was in bloom, and even lush, then it was worth waiting for a good harvest of oats, with tightly filled ears.

Historical events of June 7

Louis XIV ascended to the French throne at the age of 5. But because he was still a child; the state was actually ruled by his mother Anna of Austria, who ruled in tandem with Cardinal Mazarin. The future “Sun King” began to govern France independently only after the death of the cardinal, in 1661. On June 7, 1654, at the age of 11, Louis was crowned at Reims Cathedral. During the anointing of the king on the throne, his head was touched with a sacred sword, a ring and oil preserved in a holy ampoule. According to ancient beliefs, after the ceremony the anointed one was considered united with God and was endowed with the gift of healing, and was supposed to help the suffering. The people knew about this, so after 2 days about two thousand sick and infirm were waiting for Louis. The king touched everyone, casting a magic spell. Although this was not an easy task for the French kings, they never refused those who asked.

At the end of the Patriotic War of 1812. , which ended in the victory of the Russian people, the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was planned. This monument was supposed to be built in honor of the valiant glory of the soldiers, the memory of the fallen soldiers and gratitude for the victory. But just as the victory was not easy, the construction of the temple was also difficult: for various reasons it was repeatedly postponed or disrupted. The cathedral building was laid three times over the course of almost two centuries, and the first stone was consecrated the same number of times. The temple was first founded in 1817, but for 7 years the matter still did not move from the zero cycle. All funds used for construction were wasted and went in an unknown direction. The foundation of the temple was successful only in 1839, when the next erection of the monument began. After 44 years, the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was completed and on June 7, 1883. its consecration took place. In 1931 the temple was blown up and destroyed, by decision of a meeting of the USSR Central Executive Committee, because it was necessary to make room for the construction of the Palace of the Soviets. Only in 1994 The restoration of the long-suffering temple began in its original location. In 1997 construction was successfully completed.

The Western Wall is the holiest place for Jews, an object of pilgrimage, a symbol of hope and faith. This is the only surviving part remaining from the ancient wall of the Second Temple, which was destroyed by the Romans almost 2000 years ago (in 70). During the Israeli War of Independence in 1948, the Old City, where the Western Wall is located, was captured by the Palestinians. For almost 40 years, neither Israeli Arabs nor Jews were allowed to pray at this holy place. The Palestinians made an exception only for Christians during the Christmas ceremonies in Bethlehem. And for this time the Jews chose the highest point on Mount Zion for pilgrimage, from which they could see their shrine even from afar. Only on June 7, 1967, during the Six-Day War, Israeli troops managed to recapture the Old City from the Palestinians, and Jewish prayers at the Western Wall resumed.

Born on June 7

Anna Kournikova(born 1981), Russian tennis player, model

On June 7, the former Russian tennis star, the youngest (in the history of Russia) participant in the Olympic Games, celebrates her birthday. She began playing tennis professionally at the age of 14, and in 1996, at the age of 15, she competed for Russia at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Even though she didn’t manage to take first place then, it was from that time that Kournikova’s sports career took off. She managed to win the Australian Open twice and the final WTA tournament in doubles (with partner Martina Hingis), and with her in 2001. Anna wins the Kremlin Cup. It is unknown how the sporting fate of the talented and persistent tennis player would have developed in the future if not for the injuries that plagued the athlete almost every year. And in 2003 After receiving another injury, Anna had to leave the big sport. After completing her tennis career, Kournikova tried herself as a fashion model. She repeatedly starred in commercials and could also be seen in videos of world stars. Anna Kournikova currently lives in the United States, where she has been a citizen since 2010. Together with former tennis stars, he participates in charity events and exhibition tournaments, and is active in social activities.

Natalia Ionova/Glucose/ (born 1986), Russian singer

Since childhood, Natalya was an inquisitive child, she was fascinated by everything new and unknown. She managed to enter a music school and drop out a year later, attend many hobby groups, practice ballet, chess, and even star in the film magazine “Yeralash,” a video by Yuri Shatunov and the film “Triumph.” Due to her busy schedule and active creative activity, she had to move from a regular Moscow school to an evening school, where she completed her 10th and 11th grades. In 2002 she met Max Fadeev and became the soloist of his new project. But Max Fadeev would not be himself if he had not come up with something original and unusual. Therefore, for a long time no one saw the newly-made popular singer live on stage. In the clips, only a cartoon girl with a large dog on a leash flashed. The stage image was created by Natalya herself. Her songs occupied the top lines of the charts, and the singer herself has received high-profile awards more than once. Her repertoire included such hits as “Bride”, “Suga”, “Snowing”, “Schweine”, “Butterflies” and others.

The question of what holiday is today in Russia does not lose its relevance. Many citizens of our country want to understand what holiday falls on a specific day.

Today, June 7, is no exception to the established rules in this regard. The fact is that there are several holidays on it. So, we can talk about a new holiday for Russia - Crowdfunding Day. But the seventh of June in the folk calendar is designated as follows: Ivan - Honeydew.

What holiday is it today, June 7: Crowdfunding Day

In English, “crowdfunding” is a voluntary donation of money via the Internet to support a project or organization. As the Russians say, “everything from the world.”

Today it is a productive model of charitable giving. In Russia, crowdfunding is rapidly gaining popularity. It is already actively used as a channel for raising funds for their projects by non-profit organizations, creative people, politicians, and commercial structures.

For the first time, Russians celebrated Crowdfunding Day in 2015.

What church holiday is today, 06/07/2018: Ivan - Honeydew

The church dedicated this holiday to the third finding of the head of John the Baptist. If we turn to the Gospels, then John the Baptist is famous for having predicted the coming of the Savior, and after the prophecy came true, he baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.

The death of John occurred because he, known for loudly denouncing the violation of righteousness by many people, no matter whether the sinner was humble or noble, once pointed to the tetrarch of Galilee, Herod Antipas, who was guilty of taking his wife away from his brother Heroias and made her his wife.

For the announcement of such a truth, Heroias swore to take revenge on John. The death of John was not enough for Heroias, she also hid his head. The saint's head was found and lost again more than once, until it was finally found for the third time.

The popular name - Honeydew - comes from a very curious phenomenon. It was believed that aphids and worms, drawing juice from plants, begin from this time to leave their sweet traces on them, about which they said: “Honey dew knows rust, spreads sweetly and eats away painfully.”

They believed that these traces were harmful to plants, livestock and children. And to protect domestic animals from harm, they were, for example, driven through a cold fire pit.

If Ivan’s meadows were silver with real dew, then they rejoiced at the harvest: “Without dew, grass does not grow.” Good oats were foreshadowed by abundant flowering of rowan, but if it was slow to bloom, then it was worth waiting for a long autumn.
