JACQUARD SWEATER WITH RAGLAN SLEEVES

Description of knitting a sweater, knitted with raglan on top, for a child (age 1-1.5 years, size 80-86)
This sweater is knitted without a single seam using the raglan top method.
Thanks to this method of knitting, sweaters and cardigans will last much longer, because when the baby grows up, the sweater can be lengthened without much effort by tying the lower part of the sleeves and the front with the back.

White yarn (Viking BabyUll, 100% wool, 50 g = 175 m, in 2 threads) - 100 g;
- pink yarn (Viking BabyUll, 100% wool, 50 g = 175 m, in 2 threads) - 50 g;
- crimson yarn (Viking BabyUll, 100% wool, 50 g = 175 m, in 2 threads) - 50-60 g;
- Stocking needles No. 3 - 5 pcs.;
- Regular knitting needles (or on fishing line) No. 3.
Knitting description:
1. Cast on 64 loops with pink thread on stocking needles and knit in a circle with a 2 by 2 elastic band for 16 rows, then switch to knitting with white thread and knit 1 row with purl loops, and then 2 rows with an elastic band. Switch to knitting with crimson thread and knit 1 row with purl loops, and then 2 rows with an elastic band. Return to knitting with pink thread, knit 1 row with purl stitches and another 5 rows with an elastic band.
2. Next, you need to divide the knitting into the front, back and sleeves. I divided it as follows: front and back - 20 loops each, two sleeves - 10 loops each and 4 loops per raglan line (Total, 64 loops). We mark with a contrasting thread the places where the raglan lines should be located.
Note! In raglan lines, in every second row (from the beginning of knitting in stockinette stitch until the knitting is divided into sleeves, front and back), it is necessary to add 2 loops to the left and right of the raglan line, by knitting two from one loop.
Tip: To make the increases along the raglan line look symmetrical and neat, I recommend knitting them as follows: knit a knit stitch, knit another loop from the loop of the previous row, then knit a loop of the raglan line, then knit a loop from the loop of the previous row of the next loop, and then knit knit the next stitch.
3. We switch to knitting in stockinette stitch and knit in partial knitting.
Partial knitting is necessary to design the neck line, namely, to form a recess in the front part.
First, we make the calculation: we conditionally divide the 20 front loops into 3 parts: the middle part is 6 loops, the remaining 14 loops are divided by 2 and we get 7 loops to the right and left of the middle part. 7 loops on the right and left must be divided into another 4-5 parts of 1, 2 or 3 loops (in increasing order). Thus, we get 7=1+1+1+2+2. It is in this order that we will add loops to form a recess in the front of the neck.
Now let's move on to partial knitting. :
We knit the loops of the sleeves and back, as well as all the loops of the raglan line, in each row (do not forget to make increases in the raglan line!), and the front loops must be added as follows:
- in the 1st and 2nd rows of partial knitting, add 1 loop on both sides of the front raglan lines;
- in the 3rd and 4th rows of partial knitting, add 1 loop on both sides;
- in the 5th and 6th rows of partial knitting, add 1 loop on both sides;
- in the 7th and 8th rows of partial knitting, add 2 loops on both sides;
- in the 9th and 10th rows of partial knitting, add 2 loops on both sides;
The division of knitting into parts, as well as the first rows of partial knitting, are presented in Figure 1:
partial knitting pattern to form a neckline
Figure 1. Partial knitting to form a recess at the front of the neck when knitting with raglan on top
Then knit the middle 6 loops and close the knitting in a circle.
Next you need to continue knitting in circular rows.
4. Knit stitch rows 11-22 with pink thread, continuing to make increases in the raglan lines
Then in the next 23rd row, switch to knitting with raspberry thread and knit the entire row, alternating 2 purl and 2 knit stitches. Continue knitting with crimson thread and knit 9 rows in stockinette stitch (rows 24-32).
5. Switch to knitting with white thread and start knitting a Norwegian jacquard pattern according to pattern 1:
Knitting pattern for Norwegian jacquard pattern
Scheme 1. Norwegian jacquard pattern (click on the picture to enlarge)
6. After knitting the 50th row from the beginning of knitting with stockinette stitch (this is the 18th row in diagram 1), you need to divide the knitting into 4 parts: - 70 loops - before,
- 60 loops + 2 raglan loops - right sleeve,
- 70 loops - back,
- 60 loops + 2 raglan loops - left sleeve.
Transfer the sleeve loops to loose circular knitting needles or to a strong thread of a contract color.
7. Front and back: Next, knit in the round on the front and back loops, continuing to knit the jacquard pattern according to pattern 1.
Please note that 7 repeats of the jacquard pattern must be placed on the front and back loops (7 repeats * 20 loops = 140 loops). I recommend placing them there so that one of the rapports is in the center of the front.
8. After the entire jacquard pattern is knitted (78 rows from the beginning of knitting in stockinette stitch), knit another 16 rows in stockinette stitch with white thread (total 94 rows from the beginning of stockinette stitch).
In the next row, switch to knitting with an elastic band “2 by 2” and knit every 6th and 7th loops of the row together (a total of 120 loops remain in the work).
Rib knit 15 rows with white thread, then switch to knitting with pink thread and knit 1 purl row, and then 3 more rows with a 2 by 2 rib. Then bind off all the loops in an elastic manner.
9. Sleeve: transfer 62 sleeve loops to stocking needles.
Using a white thread, pick up 6 more stitches from the hole formed when connecting the front and back, and continue knitting according to pattern 1.
Please note that 3 repeats of the jacquard pattern should be marked on the sleeve.
To form a bevel at the bottom of the sleeve, bind off 2 loops in every 4th row as follows: 2 loops together (tilt to the left), 1 knit loop, swap 2 loops and knit together (tilt to the right).
Finish by knitting the jacquard pattern according to pattern 1 (the remaining 28 rows of the pattern), and then knit another 12 rows in stockinette stitch with white thread.
Thus, after 40 rows have been knitted from the beginning of knitting the sleeves and 10 decreases have been made (48 loops left in the work), switch to knitting with a “2 by 2” elastic band and knit every 2nd and 3rd loops together (there are still 48 loops left in the work) 32 loops).
Knit 5 rows of 2 by 2 rib with white thread, then switch to knitting with crimson thread and knit 1 purl row and 3 rows with rib, then return to knitting with white thread and knit 1 purl row, and then 2 rows with rib.
Then switch to knitting with pink thread and knit 1 purl row and 3 rows with an elastic band, switch to knitting with white thread and knit 1 purl row and 3 rows with an elastic band. Then bind off all the loops in an elastic manner.
Finish the second sleeve in the same way.
10. Assembly: fold the collar inward and sew to the inside of the neck.
11. Before wearing, it is recommended to wash the product by hand in warm water and dry on a flat surface.

Attention!
Attach a contrasting thread at the beginning and in the middle of the circular row to mark the lines of the side seams, and continue the marks until the beginning of the armholes.

When the height of the elastic is 6 cm, knit 1 p. knit stitches, evenly decreasing the stitches to 192 (204) 216 (228) sts.

Switch to circular knitting needles No. 3.5 and continue working in circles. satin stitch jacquard pattern according to the pattern.

Attention!
When the length of the product is 46 cm, divide the loops according to contrasting threads into the front and back and finish each part (= 96 (102) 108 (114) stitches each) separately. Knit on circular needles in rows in forward and reverse directions.

Back

Make a mark in the middle of the back and on both sides (= at the beginning of each row) close 3, 3 stitches for the armholes. Then on both sides close 4 stitches for raglan inserts and then in every 2nd row. perform raglan decreases: knit 1, knit 2 stitches together (according to the picture), knit until the last 3 stitches on a knitting needle, knit 2 stitches together with a slant to the left (according to the picture), knit 1. When 34 (36) 38 (40) stitches remain on the knitting needles, bind off all the loops in one row.

Before

Finish like a back, but with a round neck. To do this, when, when performing raglan decreases on the needles, there will be 48 (50) 52 (54) sts, close off the middle 12 (14) 16 (18) sts and finish both sides separately.

Continuing the raglan decreases, bind off from the inner edge at the beginning of each row 4, 4, 3 sts and then the remaining loops in one row.

Right sleeve

On stocking needles No. 3, cast on 64 (68) 72 (76) sts with a coral thread, distribute the stitches evenly across 4 knitting needles and knit in the round with an elastic band in the same way as for the lower back strap. After finishing knitting with an elastic band, knit 1 r. knit stitches, evenly decreasing the stitches to 48 (54) 60 (66) sts.
Attention!
At the beginning of the circular row, fasten a contrasting thread to mark the sleeve seam line, and continue the mark to the armhole.

Switch to stocking needles No. 3.5 (as you add more circular stitches) and continue working in the circle with a jacquard pattern according to the diagram.

On both sides of the contrast thread in every 4th r. add 4 times 1 p. (= knit from the broaches between the loops), then repeat the increases in every 6th row until there are 78 (84) 90 (96) p. on the knitting needles.

When the sleeve length is approximately 42 (43) 44 (45) cm, close on both sides (= at the beginning of each row) 3, 3 sts and then knit on circular knitting needles in rows in forward and reverse directions, for raglan inserts cast off 4 stitches on both sides and perform raglan decreases in every 2nd row, as described for the back.

When 22 (24) 26 (28) stitches remain on the knitting needles, close off at the beginning of each knit for the top bevel. rows of 4, 5, 5 sts (continuing raglan decreases at the end of the row), close the remaining loops in one row.

Left sleeve

Knit like the right one, but in a mirror image (= for the top bevel, close the loops at the beginning of each purl row).

Assembly

Raglan inserts
Knit on needles No. 3 with coral thread. For each insert-strap, cast on stitches along the raglan edge from the front side of the front/back (pull the thread along the wrong side): 1 stitch per seam, 1 stitch from approximately each row and 1 stitch per seam (the number of loops is a multiple of 4) .

Knit with an elastic band = alternately purl 2, knit 2, knit additional stitches at the ends of the bar in all rows. When the width of the bar is at least 3 cm, close the loops according to the drawing.

Sew the strips to the edges (= 4 closed loops) of the front/back and sleeves. Then sew the sleeves along the raglan bevels to the straps.

Beika
Using circular knitting needles No. 3, cast on stitches along the edge of the neckline with a coral-colored thread from the front side of the product (pull the thread along the wrong side): start from the right raglan seam of the back and cast on 1 stitch from each closed loop along the entire edge of the neckline and approximately 8 stitches ... along the edges of the raglan inserts (the number of loops is a multiple of 4).

Knit in the round with an elastic band = alternate knit 2, purl 2. If the binding width is at least 3 cm, close the loops according to the pattern.

Raglan knitting will help you create beautiful things not only for a newborn baby, but also for an adult. No matter how old you are - 8 or 48 - it doesn’t matter; at any age, a raglan knitted item would be appropriate in your wardrobe. Raglan on top with knitting needles is knitting in the round. This technique will allow you to knit various models of clothing, for example, in this way a dress, jacket, vests, sweater, pullover, jumper, cardigan, tunic, etc. can be made. A simple elegant sweater knitted with this knitting will look equally good and be comfortable to wear, or turtleneck, and youth summer top. Knitters, especially beginners, love this technique for its convenience - since you start knitting a sleeve from the neck down, you don’t have to be nervous, calculating the number of rows and worry that the sleeves will be short and will have to be re-knitted. Below you can use the diagrams of such works online to learn more about how to knit with raglan.

Raglan knitting will help you create beautiful things not only for a newborn baby, but also for an adult

Before you begin, you need to calculate the required number of loops. The calculation should be based on previously made measurements.

Since this technique involves a set of circular loops from the neckline, you need to measure it. A measuring tape is used for this. It is not necessary to measure the neckline if you want to make a product with an open collar or a small neckline. Therefore, you need to measure the part where the knitting will come from.

Raglan doesn't fit on the bottom!

The neckline measurement must be done correctly, even if the person is of short stature. The width of the jacket will depend on the number of stitches cast on. The loops are cast taking into account:

  • Planks. It is enough to knit a bar of 5-6 loops. It is knitted in garter stitch, that is, all stitches must be knitted.
  • Jacket area. The measurement is taken from the center of the chest to the beginning of the shoulder.
  • Nata loops. Usually there are 2 loops.
  • The back area of the jacket.
  • Raglan nata loops.
  • Shoulder area.
  • Nata loops.
  • Plank.

What is important to consider when knitting with raglan?

Raglan is an absolutely universal knitting pattern for a huge number of products. They can be used to knit a sweater with a round neckline, a warm jacket with a long neck, and a half-over. It is suitable for both sleeveless and sleeveless items. A raglan blouse can be knitted with pockets and long sleeves, the patterns can be any. For beginners, it is better to use a lazy pattern in your work.. Its description can be found on the Internet.

Lazy pattern options

A lazy pattern means knitting all the stitches with your face, the fabric turns out to be a shawl. Children's clothing knitted in this way is quite warm and comfortable.

  • The openwork made with raglan on top looks very beautiful. But, as they say, there is one “but” - it is better not to use an openwork pattern for those who are knitting a women’s sweater for the first time. This will create additional difficulties for the needleworker.
  • Do you need a pattern for this type of knitting? If the work is done for children, then no, it is not necessary, but if it is for adult women, it is possible. In the raglan technique, knitting occurs in the round, so it will not become easier with the pattern. Experienced knitters almost never make patterns in such projects.
  • What yarn to use in raglan knitting? It doesn’t matter for whom the work is being done, for children or for adults, the main thing is to select the yarn for knitting the desired product. The color can be any, for example, pink thread is perfect for a girl’s sweater.
  • Also in such work it is very important to sew the sleeve correctly. A product without even seams will look very unpresentable. The line along which the sleeve is sewn should look like a beautiful braid from the reverse side.
  • The raglan top looks impressive, decorated along the entire length of the sleeve, from the neck to the wrist, with voluminous braids.

Master Class:

  1. After selecting the yarn, the required number of loops is calculated. Cast on stitches on circular needles. Further knitting occurs in a circle from top to bottom.
  2. It is necessary to knit until the product fits snugly to the body. The principle of raglan knitting is to add 2 loops near the raglan line. Due to this, the product becomes wider.
  3. When knitted to the sleeve, the yarn is removed from the loop onto the thread so as not to interfere. Only the sleeves remain on the working knitting needle.
  4. Both sleeves are knitted together, that is, at the same time. There is elastic at the ends of the sleeves. Its size depends on the wishes of the master.
  5. After this, the sleeves are closed and the remaining loops are removed onto the working knitting needle. Knitting continues until the product reaches the desired length.
  6. When finishing the work, you need to make an elastic band.

This raglan is easy to knit

Don't forget about the sleeves! They need to be sewn.

Raglan top with knitting needles: sweater model for women

We knit women's warm sweaters only from thick natural yarn. The product made from it is warm and beautiful. Large-sized items knitted with raglan on top look good; the same knitting helps to insert a fashionable epaulette sleeve into a sweater or an oversized dress on a girl.

So, you need to knit a sweater according to the following pattern:

  1. First you need to knit a sample from the threads that will be used in your work. This is necessary in order to correctly calculate the required number of loops. After the calculation has been completed, the loops can be cast on to a working knitting needle.
  2. Knitting plan: placket, front, raglan, shoulder, raglan, back, raglan, shoulder, raglan, front and placket. This is a standard pattern for raglan knitting. In each row you need to add loops.
  3. When the product becomes wide enough, it is removed from the knitting needle and tried on. If it is small or fits too narrowly on the body, then you should continue to increase the number of loops.
  4. When the work is knitted to the sleeve, all loops (except those intended for knitting sleeves) must be removed. Only the loops for the sleeves remain on the working knitting needle. Knitting is happening.
  5. Then the rest of the loops are put on the working knitting needle and knitting continues.

At the end of the work, you need to sew the product. First, a seam is made along the edge loops on the placket, and then on the sleeves.

Blouse with raglan top for girls

Little girls also love to wear beautiful knitted things. They especially love to wear blouses knitted for them by their relatives. So why not do such a thing? In order for you to knit it without unnecessary hassle, our MK:

  1. Work begins with preparing the necessary materials. A blouse for a girl can be knitted from acrylic thread.
  2. To correctly calculate the loops, you need to knit the fabric with the same knitting stitch that will be used to knit the jacket.
  3. After casting the loops on the knitting needle, you can start working. The first few rows should be counted as stitches so as not to get lost. Next, the drawing will be clearly visible and the need for this calculation will no longer be necessary.
  4. It is recommended to alternate yarn colors to make the sweater striped. Loops are added along the raglan line only in the front row.
  5. To understand how long you need to add loops, it is recommended to periodically remove the yarn and try it on the girl. If it fits well to the armpits, then you can start knitting the sleeves.
  6. After the sleeves have been knitted, you can continue knitting along the length. At the end you need to make a small elastic band.

Little girls also love to wear beautiful knitted clothes.

Tip: In order not to remove the yarn from the working knitting needle for fitting, you can go another way. To do this, you need to measure the length from the shoulder to the armpit on the girl, and then measure this length on the product. And one more thing: small children do not like to put things on over their heads, so a model with buttons would be appropriate for kids.

  • The craftsman who purchased thick yarn will spend less time working. Its stitches are denser, so beginners are advised to give preference to thick thread. Also, its advantage is that the number of rows per raglan is less than when knitting it with a thin thread.
  • Beginners are not recommended to use a set of 4 double knitting needles for this work. This may cause difficulties at work.
  • Measurements should be taken very carefully. If you make a mistake in calculating the required number of loops, the product will be too tight or too wide. In any case, it will have to be unraveled and bandaged, so it is better to immediately make the correct calculation.
  • There is no need to rush in this kind of work. If something doesn't work out, don't be nervous.

Raglan top with sprout for the lazy (video)

Raglan knitting can be done by many craftsmen, even beginners. This work does not require much effort, the main thing is to remember the standard knitting pattern and follow the instructions.

We dedicate this article to a somewhat forgotten technique knitting raglan top, that is, from the neck. Let's consider knitting a sweater of several models. A product for a boy or girl is made according to the same rules as a men's or women's raglan sweater on top. Therefore, the main thing is to master the principle of approach to this needlework.

Recently, raglan knitting from the bottom has been most often considered, although many needlewomen prefer to knit it from the top.
The fact is that the scheme we are considering for making a raglan sweater on top has many advantages:

It is better for beginners to master this technique of knitting over the top, using stockinette stitch as the simplest pattern. In this case, it will be easy for you to knit and decorate the raglan line on top. Having mastered the patterns of knitting raglan on top with stockinette stitch, you can later knit any item with knitting needles, changing the size, the main pattern, as well as the design of the raglan line.

Knitting a raglan sweater from the neckline

Let's consider knitting a raglan sweater on top for a little boy who is 1 year old.
We knit a sweater using thin and soft yarn, knitting needles No. 2.5. By replacing the yarn and knitting needles, you will get a larger sweater. Having studied and mastered the principle of knitting, you can calculate the loops using other measurements and knit a men's or women's sweater with a raglan on top. Below in the photo is a pattern diagram for knitting a sweater from the top, from the neck.

We will look at knitting and its technique.

Video: What you need to know when knitting raglan top

Men's raglan sweater top

To knit a men's sweater with a raglan top, we will prepare sectionally dyed yarn (100 g / 260 m) and circular knitting needles No. 3. This model of a men's sweater has a high collar, which is knitted with a 2x2 elastic band.

Yarn of medium thickness, from which we will dial 100 P for a sweater for an adult man. If you knit from thicker yarn, or vice versa, thin yarn, then the number of P cast will change.

This method of knitting a sweater is convenient because the unfinished product can be tried on at any time during the process. If during the fitting process you are satisfied with the fit of the sweater and its size, then at this stage you can divide the work into the sleeve area and the front area with the back. The sleeve loops are transferred to a separate thick and contrasting thread.
We leave the front and back areas on circular knitting needles and knit further in the round. We perform the sleeves separately, first one, and then the second.
Knitting sleeves can be done both on simple knitting needles, in straight rows, and on five stocking needles. The choice of knitting needles depends only on your desire and taste. If you chose regular knitting needles, you will have to sew the sleeve at the end of the work.

Raglan calculation and examples of raglan knitted sweaters from above

Annichen Sibbern combined the old Norwegian method of circular knitting with simple graphic design and it looked very modern. It was proposed to knit the body in two parts and join them together while knitting the round yoke.

Such patterns fit comfortably vertically into the design, forming a round yoke.

A jumper or sweater with a round yoke is knitted completely in the round, both the body and the sleeves.

Although a sweater or jumper with a round yoke looks complicated, it is not difficult to knit.

For calculations, the percentage method of E. Zimmerman is very good, that is, all sizes are calculated as a percentage of the main measurement - breast volume, which is taken as 100%.

The body and sleeves are knitted separately up to the armholes.

Then they are connected on long circular knitting needles and a yoke is knitted. The simplest way to define its shape is to place three rows of decreases between the stripes of patterns.

For a person of average build, the height of the yoke from the armpit to the neck is 25% of the chest circumference. It is necessary to divide the depth of the yoke into 3 sections. The yoke is knitted up to the middle without decreasing.

The first decrease is made in the middle of the yoke.

A row of decreases is worked like this: knit 2, 2 together in the round until the end of the row.

The second decrease is at the height of the yoke 2/3-3/4. In this row you need to decrease 33% of the stitches in the rhythm of knit 1, knit 2 together.

And the last, third decrease - 2-3 cm from the neck, in the rhythm of 1 front, 2 together, 2 together.

Decrease in this way is convenient to do if the pattern is arranged in the form of colored stripes, then the rows of decreases need to be adjusted between them.

If the pattern consists of tapering segments, the following method can be used.

In any case, the number of neck loops should be 40% of the chest circumference.

Traditional sweaters are not usually knitted sprout It is not difficult to knit it, especially since it significantly improves the fit.

After combining the body and sleeves onto circular knitting needles, you need to make to form a sprout: several additional shortened rows And only after that proceed to the patterned yoke. If the pattern allows, you can make several short rows between the patterned stripes in the middle of the yoke.

Sleeves: Cast on 44 stitches using Italian cast-on needles No. 3.5.

The Italian set is clearly shown in these diagrams from the Internet

We knit the cuff to a height of 6-7 cm.

Then we switch to needles No. 4, add 12 stitches evenly and knit 4 rows in a circle using stockinette stitch with white threads. Then we begin to knit the pattern according to Fig. 1

At the highest point of the sleeve we have 72 loops on our knitting needles. Slip 11 stitches onto a pin under your armpit.

We also knit the second sleeve. Set aside both sleeves.

We knit the body part on circular knitting needles. We cast on knitting needles No. 3 172 loops (Italian cast-on). We knit a 2x2 elastic band to a height of 6-7 cm. Then we switch to needles No. 4 and evenly add 4 loops to match the pattern. We knit 4 rows in stockinette stitch and then follow the pattern in Fig. 1.

Then we need to connect all three parts in a circle.

Having connected in a circle, we begin to knit a circular ornament on the yoke.

This is how it turns out

After the ornament comes the openwork according to the pattern.

I used schemes 2 and 3.

I sewed the removed loops under the armpit using a kettel stitch.
