Crochet twisted posts. Crochet twisted posts How to crochet twisted posts

How to crochet a twisted stitch? This question is often asked not only by beginners, but also by experienced needlewomen. Despite the clearly stated algorithm that is usually prescribed in knitting tutorials, getting what we see in the picture is not at all easy.

The secret of knitting twisted columns lies in the hook, the tip of which should be sharp and the base thick. You can make such a hook yourself from a wooden knitting needle by filing it at one end.

So, master class on how to crochet a twisted stitch

When crocheting a twisted column, you will need the following tools:

  • Special hook for knitting twisted columns
  • Wool yarn or Iris threads, folded several times to make a fairly thick thread.

How to crochet twisted columns?

We make a chain of air loops. We usually knit a chain about 10 cm long for the sample, but you can knit a slightly shorter length or, on the contrary, a little longer.

At the end of knitting the chain, without turning the work over (we knit in the opposite direction), we make five yarn overs in a row on the hook.

We count two air loops from the hook and insert the hook into the third loop from the hook.

We grab the thread (we do what is called a yarn over) and pull this thread out of the loop into which the hook was inserted - we get six loops on the hook.

We make a yarn over the hook and pull the hook through all the loops on the hook at once. So we got the first twisted crochet post.

We will knit the next twisted column close to the first column, that is, without making any disconnecting additions in the form of air loops between the columns.

So, we knit the second twisted column in the same way as the first twisted column:

  • We wrap the hook with the working thread 5 times;
  • Insert the hook into the next loop of the base of the chain of chain loops;
  • Again we grab the thread with the hook and pull the hook out of the base loop with a new loop on the hook - we get a total of 6 loops on the hook;
  • We grab the working thread with the hook and pull it through all the loops on the hook - we get 1 loop on the hook. So we crocheted the second twisted post.

We continue knitting twisted stitches until the end of the chain of air loops.

Now we know how to crochet twisted columns.

Twisted column video

Oops, I think there was a video here once, but it's gone now. We will try to fix this as soon as possible.

Very often in the process of crocheting there is a need to knit twisted (postal) posts. It is very convenient to use special hooks for knitting them, but you can also knit them with a regular crochet hook. In this case, a knitting needle with a wide eye will help us.

To do this, take a needle and apply the eye to the head of the hook. Then we wrap the hook with the attached needle with the working thread the required number of times, pressing the turns to the hook. And while continuing to press the turns to the hook, you need to push the needle out with the head of the hook and pull the working thread through all the turns.

This way we got two loops on the hook. After the height of the column is adjusted, you need to pull the thread through the resulting two loops and the twisted (postal) column is ready.

Twisted posts are often used in the Freeform knitting technique. When used in any product, they are distinguished by their relief, originality and look beautiful in the pattern.

In any pattern, high columns with one, two or more crochets can be replaced with twisted columns. Twisted columns look elegant and voluminous; they make beautiful decorative elements. For example, several twisted columns connected from one point create a beautiful fan with straight columns like tubes. The main thing is to knit twisted columns only in the front rows, since there is a broach on the wrong side of the column. In circular rows, twisted stitches can be knitted in each row, since they are all knit stitches.

Twisted stitch knitting technique simple, but requires skill when performing it. It is easier to knit twisted columns from wool or acrylic yarn of medium thickness.

To knit a twisted stitch, make 5 to 12 yarn overs on the hook (the height of the stitch will depend on the number of yarn overs). Wrap the thread around the hook as loosely as possible, this will then allow you to easily pull the hook through the turns.

Having made the yarn overs, insert the hook into the base point of the future column and grab the working thread.

Pull the caught thread through all the turns on the hook; while pulling the turns on the hook, hold it with your index finger and thumb.
