All about oily facial skin. Why is skin oily? Before going to bed, cleanse your skin with cosmetics with a pH of four or higher.

We are glad to meet you again on the pages of our blog! Today we decided to devote an article to two skin problems that often go hand in hand. If a person has oily facial skin and acne, what should one do in this case? How to get rid of such imperfections without inadvertently damaging the dermis, and become attractive?

After all, attempts to reduce sebum secretion often lead to the appearance of new rashes. And vice versa - eliminating acne does not guarantee that the sebaceous glands will produce less sebum, and the pores will decrease in size.

Every person has sebaceous glands on the skin of their face and body. For some, they produce very little fat, while others unsuccessfully try to remove the unpleasant oily sheen.

On the face, the glands work especially actively, secreting sebum through the pores. The largest number of pores are located in the T-zone (middle of the forehead, nose, small areas of skin near the nostrils, chin). When sebum production is too active, the pores become enlarged and can be easily replaced with the naked eye.

Moreover, fat oxidized under the influence of oxygen darkens, forming (comedones).

The appearance of acne may be due to inappropriate skin care or natural processes occurring in the skin cells. As oil accumulates in the pores, fatty acids are formed, which contribute to the development of inflammation. This is why pimples form mainly at the site of clogged pores.

The main causes of increased oily facial skin

Have you ever thought that nature is rarely to blame for excessive oily skin?

For the most part, the fact that our face is unpleasantly shiny and shiny is our own fault - because we don’t eat right, don’t pay enough attention to our skin and health, and ignore the body’s alarm signals.

So, what leads to increased oily facial skin and provokes increased sebum production? This:

  • hormonal imbalances (excessive amounts of testosterone, characteristic of adolescents), which mostly go away on their own after reaching a certain age; if the failure was caused by long-term use of certain medications (contraceptives, etc.), it is better to put them aside;
  • hereditary factor (occurs in only 10% of cases);
  • lack of vitamins (observed during the off-season, at the end of winter - beginning of spring, when there are few fresh vegetables and fruits in the diet);
  • dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract (constipation, irregular diet, insufficient consumption of clean water, etc.);
  • too frequent washing, which has a destructive effect on the upper layers of the skin (this type of oiliness will be the most difficult to get rid of);
  • stressful situations (their consequences can only be relieved by a good rest for at least a week).

Did you know that oily skin has one undoubted advantage? The protective layer of sebum prolongs the youth of the skin. Try to take a closer look at your acquaintances with oily skin; in people under 50, you are unlikely to find pronounced, deep wrinkles and folds.

Features of caring for oily skin with acne

The most difficult skin type to care for is considered to be combination skin, when the middle of the face quickly begins to shine, and dryness is observed on the cheeks. However, getting your face in order when the skin quickly becomes oily and acne appears on it is even more difficult. What is taboo? You'll have to forget about:

  • cleansers with a drying effect (overdried skin begins to produce even more oil, so after cleansing your face “squeaky clean,” don’t be surprised that after a couple of hours it starts to become shiny);
  • squeezing pimples (this increases the risk of infection and inflammation);
  • poor, irregular facial hygiene (you need to cleanse your skin constantly, morning and evening);
  • abuse of peelings more than 3 times a week (scrubs gradually “clean off” not only dead skin cells, but also the protective layers of the dermis).

Sometimes the formation of acne and the production of sebum are provoked by vitamin-mineral complexes and an excess of iodine in the body. The reason for this is the incorrect selection of medications.

How to properly care for oily skin? There are very few rules:

  • high-quality cleansing that will remove excess oil, but will not dry out the skin (cleaning products with a light consistency, in the form of gels and foams, are considered ideal);
  • washing twice (in the morning and evening);
  • refusal of hot water (you can wash off the cleanser with lukewarm water and then rinse with cold water, or wipe your face with an ice cube at the end of washing to narrow the cleansed pores);
  • the use of special lotions and tonics (with salicylic acid, etc.) to wipe the skin after washing;
  • peeling 1-2 times a week (for deep cleaning of pores, preventing new acne).
  • good moisturizing (gel-like), easily absorbed into the skin (yes, this is not a typo, excess oil on the skin does not mean that it has enough moisture).

Nowadays you can find special brushes for washing your face on sale. They can only be used if there are no areas of inflammation on the face. Otherwise, it’s easy to “spread” the infection all over the face with a brush, and a small harmless pimple can turn into a huge purulent boil.

The same rule applies to scrubs: try not to rub areas with ripening acne with abrasive particles.

Among decorative cosmetics, absorbent powder will be useful, capable of absorbing sebum secreted throughout the day. For the nose, you can use a little mattifying cream. But it’s better to avoid thick foundations.

At home, you can prepare masks and scrubs that help reduce oily skin. To prepare a simple peeling you need:

  • 3 tbsp. cold milk (any fat content);
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar.

The ingredients are mixed together, applied to the face and massaged lightly for 3-5 minutes, then rinsed off with clean water.

Masks for oily skin are made based on cosmetic clay (white, blue, green).

The clay can be diluted with water or mixed with low-fat kefir (yogurt) to the consistency of thick sour cream. The finished mixture is applied to cleansed skin, after 15-20 minutes, when the clay is completely dry, it is washed off with lukewarm or cool water.

Lotion for oily skin is prepared from available products. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is diluted with clean water in a 1:1 ratio. It is applied to the face daily. The product not only reduces oiliness, but also improves complexion.

Kombucha infusion has a good antibacterial effect. The starter must be kept for at least 10 days, and then the resulting liquid must be used to wipe the face. Eyelids, thin skin around the eyes and lips are not treated with this product. The infusion reduces fat content, disinfects, and prevents the development of infection.

To prepare a vitamin lotion, which also reduces sebum production, take equal parts of vegetable and citrus juices:

  • cucumber;
  • carrot;
  • citric.

The skin after this lotion looks fresh, smooth and clean.

Tap water with a high content of chlorine and heavy metals can only do harm to your face instead of benefiting it. However, not everyone can afford to use special waters for washing, the price of which is truly heavenly. What to do? Prepare infusions and decoctions for washing in advance, replacing ordinary tap water with them:

  • strong infusion of green tea;
  • nettle decoction;
  • decoction of plantain leaves and roots;
  • chamomile infusion.

How to treat acne and inflammation?

A simple and effective remedy for acne is 100% tea tree essential oil. With it you can:

  • quickly remove existing rashes on the face (without the formation of scars);
  • prevent the appearance of new boils;
  • remove redness.

The oil is applied pointwise (with a cotton swab) only to acne, after cleansing the face, until the product is completely absorbed. In addition, 1-2 drops of oil can be added to masks or water for making ice.

Doctors advise treating acne with ready-made pharmaceutical preparations (local antibiotics in the form of gels and ointments). For severe rashes, medications for oral (internal) administration are prescribed:

  • antibiotics (to inhibit bacteria from the inside, quickly eliminate the inflammatory process);
  • isotretinoin (to reduce the number and size of acne).

Subcutaneous injections of corticosteroids are prescribed when a cyst has formed at the site of the pimple. Girls and women, after consultation with a gynecologist, can be prescribed contraceptives that have a combined effect.

In addition to the main task - preventing unwanted pregnancy - they also perform an auxiliary function, reducing the production of sebum.

Fresh, recently appeared pimples can be removed by rubbing the affected areas of the skin with a slice of fresh lemon several times a day.

With this we say goodbye to you, dear subscribers! We hope that with the help of this article, your face will become fresh and healthy, and you will be able to forget about acne forever! See you again on the pages of our blog!

Oily skin is one of the common skin types, which is characterized by excessive activity of the sebaceous glands, a rough, loose texture with enlarged pores, an unhealthy color and an oily sheen. It should be noted that this is one of the four existing types of dermis, i.e. a variant of the norm, and not as a separate disease.

Very often comedones (blackheads), acne, sebaceous gland cysts, seborrhea appear on such skin, i.e. there is a tendency to these negative phenomena, but oily skin does not mean problematic skin; with proper care, all these troubles can be avoided.

Oily facial skin - causes

  • Genetic predisposition. In this case, the dermis does not change throughout life and remains oily, but such cases are few, only 5-8% of all cases.
  • Adolescence. Most often, teenagers are the owner of this feature, but by the age of 25-30, oily skin turns into combination skin.
  • Increased work of the sebaceous glands. This may be due to hereditary predisposition, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (cholecystitis, colitis, constipation), hormonal changes, nutrition (infatuation with spicy, fatty, starchy foods, alcohol, soda), work in conditions of elevated temperatures and dust, exposure to cigarette smoke, sunlight radiation.
  • Hormonal reasons. Oily skin is typical during puberty, the second phase of the menstrual cycle, menopause, pregnancy, and prolonged stressful situations. It also happens against the background of hormonal treatment or long-term use of oral contraceptives, as well as abrupt cessation of taking hormones.
  • Endocrine system disorders. With hypothyroidism, there is a general dryness of the skin and oily dermis on the face.
  • Immunity disorder. A decrease in the body's immune defense can also manifest itself as this symptom.
  • Improper hygiene care: aggressive cleansing of the skin with alcohol-containing cosmetics and scrubs, constant degreasing of problem areas, use of fatty creams, etc. Removal of the surface lipid layer leads to even greater compensatory work of the sebaceous glands. Frequent exfoliation injures the epidermis and activates the production of sebum, which is produced to protect the damaged surface. Oily creams clog pores even more and mix with sebum. Therefore, you should start looking for the answer to the question of why facial skin is oily from yourself.

Diseases in which one of the symptoms is oily skin:

  • diabetes mellitus is a multisystem pathology that affects all organs and systems;
  • cachexia, wasting in women– lack of building material for the synthesis of female hormones, against the background of which the level of male hormones increases;
  • obesity – oily skin as a result of poor nutrition and excessive sweating;
  • ovarian tumors, polycystic ovary syndrome– the phenomenon, again, is a consequence of increased levels of male hormones;
  • hyperandrogenism in men– increased levels of male hormones in representatives of the stronger sex against the backdrop of a passion for bodybuilding, sports and the use of synthetic testosterone for muscle growth;
  • hypertrichosis is a disease characterized by excessive hairiness and changes in hormone levels, which, again, causes oily skin;
  • liver diseases, such as fatty degeneration, hepatitis, since the liver performs an intoxicating function, including removing excess hormones. A characteristic symptom is oily skin of the nasolabial folds and forehead.

When to see a doctor

Actually, you should consult a doctor in all cases when such a symptom occurs for no apparent reason, especially in adulthood. All complications require treatment - boils, carbuncles, phlegmon.

The fact is that sebum is an excellent breeding ground for the development of bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus, propionobacteria and streptococcus. By causing local inflammatory processes and actively multiplying, bacteria can infect healthy tissues and spread throughout the body, causing an extensive infectious process that can be fatal.

Characteristics of oily and combination skin

Localization

Most often these are the T-zones on the face: forehead, chin and nose. On the body - back and chest. Often accompanied by oily hair.

Appearance

Oily, thickened, rough, unkempt and shiny and uneven surface of the skin, with a grayish, dull color. Often the appearance resembles an orange peel - the pores are clearly visible and, with proper care, practically gape or are filled with liquid fat. With insufficient or improper care, pores become clogged - comedones, as well as acne and milia, form. Seborrhea and thaleangiectasia are possible.

Oily skin has its advantages: the constantly present natural oily mantle protects the skin from adverse external influences, prevents photoaging and loss of elasticity. It has been proven that people with this type of dermis age more slowly - wrinkles appear later and are less noticeable.

What should those with oily skin do?

  • First of all, the negative influence of aggressive and inappropriate cosmetics and cleaning methods, which we discussed above, in the causes of the problem (alcohol-containing products, frequent peeling, etc.) is eliminated to the maximum.
  • Fatty, fried, salty, smoked, pickled and sweet foods are excluded from the diet, or at least limited.
  • The basis of the diet should be lean fish, white meat, veal, vegetables, fruits, bran.
  • Under no circumstances should you go to bed with decorative cosmetics on your face. Ideally, you should cleanse your face immediately after returning home.

How to get rid of oily skin on the face - treatment

The solution to this problem is always complex, and there is no universal tablet that would normalize the condition of the skin. Treatment always begins with a blood test (for sugar, hormones), studying hereditary predisposition, medical history, etc.

How to care for oily skin

Daily care has several goals:

  • removing excess sebum (but not overdrying);
  • opening and cleansing pores;
  • decreased activity of the sebaceous glands.

Care for oily skin can be divided into professional care, which is carried out in beauty salons and beauty salons, and home care, which is available to everyone.

Home Remedies for Oily Skin

Like any other type, oily skin needs cleansing, moisturizing and nourishing.

  • You should wash your face 2-3 times a week using a special mousse, foam or gel for oily skin. These products have a sebum-regulating and cleansing effect, eliminate inflammation without overdrying.
  • When cleaning, do not use various washcloths, sponges, as well as alkaline soap and too hot water. Initially, the effect will be very good, and the cleansed dermis will delight you with matteness. But after 10-15 minutes the oily sheen will appear again, because... both hot water and mechanical stress further stimulate the activity of the sebaceous glands. It is ideal to do everything with your fingertips or a cotton pad, without fanaticism, using warm or cool water.
  • Instead of water, you can use an infusion of herbs: chamomile, mint, nettle, linden blossom, or use bottled water.
  • After washing, the face is dried naturally and treated with a suitable tonic or lotion.
  • The final step is to apply cream for oily or combination skin. A good cream has a light texture, absorbs quickly, leaves no residue and must protect against UV radiation.
  • Deep cleansing - peeling - can be done once a week. But for cleansing, it is not recommended to use scrubs in the form of compositions that need to be applied to the skin and actively massaged. It is better to use film masks that effectively remove fat, dead epithelium, dirt, without injury or activation of the sebaceous glands.
  • 1-2 times a week you can make homemade masks for oily skin from green or blue clay, which have an adsorbing effect, as well as fruit masks based on apples, kiwi, with the addition of lemon juice, which help normalize the functioning of the sebaceous glands. Oil from raw potato pulp has a positive effect.
  • Weekly lotions with sea salt, which are made using melt water (1 teaspoon of salt per 500 ml of water) and left for 5-10 minutes, have a good effect.
  • You should choose decorative cosmetics with special care, especially foundation and makeup base - the products should also be light, quickly absorbed and easily washed off. It is best not to use foundations and powders.
  • During the day, you should not touch your face with your hands, because... dirt and bacteria from their surface easily penetrate the pores and aggravate the situation.

The salon care procedure includes the following steps:

  • removing makeup using special bactericidal emulsions;
  • cleansing and toning with tonics and lotions;
  • deep cleansing of facial skin and elimination of hyperkeratosis using one of the following methods:
    • Enzyme peeling – cleansing with a special enzymatic composition that breaks down dead particles of epithelium and impurities;
    • Disincrustation - galvanic cleaning using special solutions that liquefy old comedones and blackheads;
    • Vaporization - gentle exposure to a steam jet at 40-50 C for 20 minutes, which leads to the opening and cleansing of pores, softening of dead epithelium;
    • Ultrasonic cleaning– exposure to ultrasonic waves to cleanse desquamated epithelium and comedones. Ultrasonic waves also provide micromassage, activating blood circulation and increasing tone;
    • Instrumental cleaning– cleansing the skin of comedones, blackheads and whiteheads using tools – Uno spoon, loop, Vidal needle. In rare cases, a special brush is also used, but selectively, in the most clogged areas;
    • Dry cleaning– the use of a gel with glycolic acid, which allows you to remove surface “plugs”, tighten pores, and normalize the activity of the sebaceous glands;
  • application of ampoule products, various serums;
  • gentle facial massage (according to Jacquet, lymphatic drainage);
  • applying a mask that has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, sebum-regulating, keratolytic and immunomodulatory effects;
  • applying a special cream.

From hardware cosmetology, darsonvalization, chromotherapy, ultraphonophoresis, non-invasive mesotherapy, mud applications, biorevitalization, cryomassage have a good effect. These methods dry the skin, improve microcirculation and tissue nutrition, and also reduce the activity of the sebaceous glands.

At the end of the session, the cosmetologist should advise products and methods for home care and determine the frequency of salon procedures.

Drug treatment for oily skin

Preparations containing the following active ingredients are used:

  • Azaleic acid– antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and exfoliating effect;
  • Zinc – keratolytic effect;
  • Sulfur – suppresses the secretion of the sebaceous glands;
  • D-Panthenol, dexpanthenol– recovery after physiotherapy, cleansing, normalization of cell metabolism;
  • Adapalene – prevention of comedones, anti-inflammatory effect;
  • Benzoyl peroxide– exfoliating effect, promotes cell renewal;
  • Copper – regulator of sebum production;
  • Isotretinoid – breaks down the stratum corneum and inhibits fat synthesis;
  • Bacteriocins and pyocyanins– metabolic products of microorganisms that increase the immune properties of the dermis and participate in its regeneration;
  • Vitamins PP and group B– have a beneficial effect on the condition of the dermis, blood circulation and fat metabolism.

Hormone therapy

Prescribed for menopause (Livial, Divina, etc.), hormonal imbalance (Belara, Yarina, etc.) for course treatment (see).

Antibacterial treatment

As a rule, antibiotics are not prescribed either locally or systemically, but only in case of bacterial and purulent complications. Antiseptics and exfoliants are used for local treatment.

Phytotherapy

Prescribed for local use. Concentrated plant extracts are diluted in cool boiled water and used as a lotion for wiping after cleansing procedures.

  • Chamomile extract. Has an antiseptic, cleansing and softening effect. Eliminates inflammation.
  • Sage extract. Characterized by a calming, regenerating, bactericidal effect.
  • Calendula. Heals damage and has a regenerating effect.
  • Oak bark has a tanning, drying effect.
  • Green tea extract. Has an antioxidant effect, cleanses the surface of the dermis from toxins.

Oil for oily skin

The oil is used instead of night cream, applying it in a thin layer to the cleaned surface. It would seem, how can fatty oil itself improve the condition of the dermis? Oil compositions help cleanse clogged pores from dirt and hard fat, regulate sebum production, and help cell regeneration.

  • Hazelnut oil– a basic base that can be used without additives or with the addition of other oils. Cleanses, tightens pores, smoothes and restores skin;
  • Grape seed oil– moisturizes the skin and tightens pores;
  • Black currant oil– has antibacterial activity, maintains skin elasticity, tones it.
  • Sesame oil – normalizes the activity of the sebaceous glands and tightens pores.
  • Almond oil– cleanses pores, reduces redness.
  • Tea tree oil– relieves acne and normalizes the biocenosis of the dermis.
  • Lavender oil mattifies the skin and has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect.

Hazelnut oil is taken as a basis (50% of the mixture) and other oils from the list above are added to it at 10%. You can also use essential oils (sandalwood, juniper, bergamot, grapefruit, cedar), but they should be added 1-2 drops to the base oil mixture.

With proper care and a healthy lifestyle, oily skin ceases to be a problem, but rather turns into a virtue, preserving the appearance of youth of the face and protecting it from adverse external influences.

Oily facial skin means wide pores, oily shine and acne. It’s not for nothing that this skin is called problematic.

Properly selected care can combat these shortcomings. So, what needs to be taken into account if you have oily skin type – we’ll look at it in the article.

Signs of oily skin

It is not difficult to distinguish oily skin from other types. Characteristic features:

  • large, noticeable pores;
  • greasy shine;
  • acne is typical.

Oily skin resembles an orange peel - thick, rough, porous. Due to the active work of the sebaceous glands, it is difficult to apply makeup on such skin - it quickly begins to flow if you do not use special primers, and mattifying foundations and powders remove oily shine only for a while. Large pores quickly become contaminated, which leads to the formation of comedones and pimples. Sometimes rashes appear on the chest, arms, and back. Also, oily facial skin is often combined with oily scalp.

If you are not sure about your skin type, do a simple test. To do this, you need to wash your face, do not apply cosmetics, and after a few hours, apply a napkin to your face. The abundance of areas where traces of fat are visible (T-zone and sides) indicate oily skin.

Oily skin also has advantages - it is elastic, less susceptible to wrinkles, and retains youth longer.

Causes of oily facial skin

Oily facial skin is more common in young people under 25-30 years of age. Many people are familiar with the problem of excess fat and profuse acne in adolescence and young adulthood. This is due to hormonal changes. A high amount of male sex hormones stimulates the active functioning of the sebaceous glands - hence oily shine and acne.

More often, after 30 years, skin type changes to normal or combination. However, in some cases this does not happen - this means that in this case, oily skin type is determined by genetics.

The causes of oily facial skin include diseases of the ovaries, gastrointestinal tract, prolonged stay in dirty, dusty rooms and improper facial skin care. Nutrition in this case is indirectly related - some foods affect the hormonal levels of the body, and this affects the condition of the skin.

What to do if you have oily skin

Is it possible to somehow influence your skin type:

  • Taking hormonal medications. If increased activity of the sebaceous glands and rashes have become a serious problem, it is necessary to combat it by taking medications. This can be done as early as adolescence. You shouldn’t wait for it to “go away on its own.” It is necessary to consult a doctor who will select medications taking into account the characteristics of the body. There are many hormonal drugs that are suitable for girls and do not cause harm to health.
  • Competent care. Oily skin, like no other type, needs thorough cleansing, because dirty pores contribute to the appearance of new rashes and an abundance of secretion. You need to take care of your skin morning and evening with a special system of products. It is recommended to have your skin cleaned regularly by a cosmetologist. This will help unclog pores, control sebaceous gland secretions, and keep your skin fresh and clean.
  • Time. If serious skin problems do not arise, then this period must be waited out. After 30 years, in most cases, hormonal levels stabilize, and the skin becomes closer to normal.

How to care for oily skin

What to do if you have oily skin type - choose daily care. Consistency and properly selected tools help solve many problems.

It is necessary to choose products designed to care for oily and problematic skin. Their task is to deeply cleanse the skin, mattify it, fight oily sheen and regulate the secretion of glands. What does the care system include:

  • Cleansing. Do not use regular soap to wash your hands! It will dry out the skin, adding new problems in the form of peeling. Use special gels and foams for washing or cosmetic soap. They must be applied to the face, avoiding the area around the eyes and lips, and massaged for a couple of minutes until foam appears.
  • Masks. There are many mattifying clay masks that clean out pores. Charcoal-based film masks are also a good choice. It is enough to use 1-2 times a week.
  • Peeling. Dead skin cells can cause clogged pores. It is recommended to remove them using peeling. It is important to use gentle products that do not injure the skin. Acid peeling and gommage are good options. Use no more than once a week. The peeling procedure can be replaced by professional cleaning by a cosmetologist.
  • Tonics and lotions. Another important stage of care. These products not only give the face a feeling of freshness and mattify, but also remove the remnants of the cleanser from the skin. Must be used after every wash.
  • Serums. The most popular among those with oily skin is the pore tightening serum. An amazing effect will not occur from one week of use. The product must be used regularly, combined with thorough cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Serums have a light texture, so they are applied after the toning stage before moisturizing cream.
  • Creams. They are necessary for oily skin, just like other types. Often, abundant secretion is needed to compensate for the lack of moisture. Therefore, the cream partially helps solve the problem of excess skin secretion. Choose water-based creams with a light texture. It is important to have not only a day cream, but also a night cream - it contains nutrients that are absorbed during the skin regeneration process during sleep. Spot-on anti-acne creams are also a good addition to caring for problem skin.

It is better to wash your face with cool water - this helps to narrow the pores. It is also useful to wipe the skin with ice cubes.

What oily skin doesn't like

  • Fat creams. Excessive oiliness is of no use to such skin. You can use this cream only in frosty weather to protect your face. In your daily care, give preference to light, water-based products.
  • Neglect hydration. Oily skin needs hydration. To maintain beauty, it is better to use light creams and drink at least 2 liters of water per day.
  • Lipid-based cosmetics. For oily skin, it is important to use non-comedogenic cosmetics that do not clog pores.
  • Alcohol and soap. Both products dry out the skin. Dehydrated skin begins to peel off and becomes irritated. It is recommended to use gels or special cosmetic soaps for washing, and use alcohol only on the recommendation of a doctor.
  • Squeeze pimples. This bad habit occurs in many people. When pressure is applied, the abscess that is under the skin ruptures and the pus penetrates deeper, causing more rashes to appear. Secondly, infections and dirt get into the wound. It is better to contact a cosmetologist who will perform professional cleaning.

Remember that proper care for oily, problematic skin will help maintain its beauty and freshness.

Oily skin - loose and shiny skin that looks like lemon peel, characterized by excess sebum. Oily skin is more common among teenagers and young people; with age, even very oily skin becomes normal, this is due to natural age-related changes in the body. Such skin, without a doubt, has its advantages - the appearance of early wrinkles is unusual for it, it does not require constant nourishment with creams, as is the case with dry skin, but a significant drawback, of course, is its excessive shine, enlarged pores and it is prone to the appearance of comedones, pustular formations of various etiologies. Areas of increased fat content will be the nose, forehead, shoulders, back, chin, chest.

Causes of oily skin

  1. Heredity: the sebaceous glands of all people react the same way to the release of hormones, but everyone’s sensitivity will be different. Sensitivity depends on genetics and even with the same hormonal levels, skin oiliness will vary from person to person. In this case, there is nothing left to do except proper care and come to terms with it.
  2. Hormones. They affect the production of fat in the sebaceous glands. The second phase of the menstrual cycle in women is marked by increased production of subcutaneous sebum. This condition is caused by hormonal levels. Due to the predominance of testosterone in the body, oily skin is more common among men. Due to puberty, the problem of oily skin mainly occurs among young women, girls, and boys. In this case, we can talk about excessive activity of the sebaceous glands.
  3. Dietary disorders: excess fatty, fried, spicy, sour, sweet, spicy foods. Coffee, soda, sweet foods, and dry food will also be harmful in large quantities. Lack of vitamins and minerals also affects the condition. It is necessary to exclude fast food, eat less fatty and sweet foods. Products such as buckwheat porridge, bran, fruit, and low-fat kefir have a very good effect on the condition of the skin.
  4. Environmental factors such as tobacco smoke, stress, and air pollution also have a negative impact on skin condition.
  5. Increased ambient temperature stimulates sebum production.
  6. Ultraviolet irradiation: dries and thickens the stratum corneum of the skin, sebum is released more problematically, acne and pimples appear.
  7. Poor hygiene: It is important to wash your face every day in the morning and treat areas of the skin that are prone to excessive oiliness.
  8. Use of low-quality cosmetics. The oily or greasy base of such products can only further aggravate the skin condition.
  9. Violation of the immune system: the skin is a protective layer; if a violation of the immune processes occurs, then there is a high probability that the skin will cease to cope with its main function and will begin to produce excessive amounts of sebum.
  10. Disturbances in the functioning of internal organs: pancreas, intestines, thyroid gland. In this case, it is important to exclude the cause and provide reliable skin care.
  11. Passion for active cleansers that contain alcohol. When treating oily skin, it is also important not to overdo it. Constant use of alcohol-containing products will only worsen the problem. The skin may react aggressively to severe degreasing and begin to intensively produce sebum.
  12. Frequent exfoliation. Mechanical cleansing of the face gives quick and noticeable results, but often women simply begin to abuse this product. As a result, inflammation occurs due to microtraumas of the epidermis and the secretion of sebum on an increased scale.
  13. Increased humidity in the environment or production area.
  14. Prolonged stress, increased excitability, constant fatigue. Nerve endings can stimulate sebum production. These factors must be avoided.
  15. Central nervous system disorders, mental illness. You will need specialist help.
  16. Hyperandrogenism in men. Male hormones are present in increased quantities. It can often be observed among men who are professional bodybuilders. But such a violation also occurs for a natural reason. Treatment depends on the elimination of symptoms.
  17. Vegetovascular dystonia.
  18. Climax.
  19. Pregnancy.
  20. Baking diseases.
  21. Diabetes.
  22. Hypertrichosis may be accompanied by oily skin.
  23. Overweight.
  24. Ovarian diseases that increase the production of male hormones.
  25. Long-term use of certain medications, chronic infectious diseases. It is important to carefully follow the instructions for all medications you take.

The causes of oily skin, as we see from this list, can be not only cosmetic, but also medical.

Characteristics of oily skin

The basis of oily skin is a naturally thick layer of the epidermis and increased work of the sebaceous glands. Active and constant release of sebum clogs the pores, resulting in the formation of a blackhead, inflammation or acne.

The process of thickening the upper layer is stimulated by fatty acids, which leads to compression of the pores and their expansion, and a large amount of moisture leads to their swelling at the edges.

Due to clogged pores, the skin's breathing becomes more difficult and its natural exfoliation and cleansing process is disrupted. Bacteria that enter their natural habitat cause the development of all kinds of inflammation. All these defects enlarge the pores even more. Oily skin is covered with a fatty film and has a poor blood supply.

Features of oily skin care

For oily skin, the most important thing is to cleanse it with the help of special products that normalize the activity of the sebaceous glands. It will also be important to increase the skin’s immunity to resist infections and other diseases. Soap or a special gel is suitable for cleansing; the water should not be too hard. You can also rinse your face with cold water and lemon or vinegar after cleansing.

Compresses or steam baths are very useful for oily skin. A moisturizing and nourishing cream will help your skin look healthy. Several times a week you can make cleansing and nourishing masks.

Don't forget that you can't degrease oily skin too much. It is better to use soft and gentle means more often.

You should also not squeeze out pimples and blackheads on your face very often. This should be done by a specialist.

Methods for treating oily skin

Treatment for oily skin should be complete and comprehensive. It is important at the first stage of treatment to identify the cause of oily skin and eliminate it, if possible. In case of improper care, use of low-quality cosmetics, poor and unhealthy diet, the reasons for oily skin will be obvious. To get rid of the problem, it will be enough to get rid of the factors that provoke it.

If only external therapy is used, which is aimed at eliminating the manifestations of the disease, it will not be possible to achieve a lasting result. Specialists usually use a combination of different techniques, which allows them to achieve the most effective results.

Proper nutrition

To improve the condition of the skin, regardless of the factor that caused oily skin, proper nutrition will be an important point. You will need to include the maximum amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet, of course, to ensure that you are not allergic to them. Pure water is also a very important component of the treatment regimen.

All harmful foods from the diet should be excluded or at least minimized. Eating a portion of oatmeal in the morning has a beneficial effect on skin health.

Treatment at home

In general, treating oily skin at home is ineffective. First of all, of course, you need to consult with a dermatologist, cosmetologist and other specialists. Most likely, you will need to change your diet and care features, but regardless of the prescribed procedures, there are always general recommendations, such as washing with room water and wiping your face with cleansing lotions.

Thermal waters are also effective for oily skin; they not only allow you to refresh yourself on a hot summer day, but also make it possible to eliminate the excessive secretion of sebum. In this case, the effect of moisturizing, removing redness and eliminating oily shine will be noticeable.

Treatment of oily skin in cosmetology

Treatment in a salon for oily skin requires the development of an individual program; usually a whole range of procedures is prescribed. The following techniques are effective for oily skin:

  • Massage;
  • Cream for oily skin;
  • The use of special masks;
  • Cryotherapy;
  • A liquid nitrogen;
  • Darsonvalization;
  • Steam baths;
  • Mechanical cleaning;
  • Vaporization;
  • Deep cleansing of the skin;
  • Makeup remover with bactericidal preparations.

More details about each procedure:

  1. Massage for oily skin affects it very deeply, which is achieved through fairly strong pressure. This increases blood circulation and improves skin nutrition. The production of sebaceous gland secretions is activated and muscle tone increases. Usually performed with talc, the skin must be cleansed in the salon before the procedure. The duration of the session is 5-6 minutes; about 20 procedures will be required, which it is advisable to repeat periodically.
  2. Cream for oily skin: a cosmetologist will select a special moisturizer that is suitable for a specific skin type. The opinion that already oily skin does not need to be moisturized is erroneous. You just need to choose the right moisturizing component. Thick and greasy cream will not work; the preferred options are hypoallergenic with a light texture. The composition should contain vitamins, oils, collagen.
  3. Masks for oily skin are a real godsend; they are more than appropriate in this case. Most often these are mixtures based on hyaluronic acid, which include antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory components.
  4. Ice dries and tones oily skin well, which is why cryotherapy is so popular in the treatment of oily skin. For this type of skin, rubbing with cosmetic lud after washing in the morning will give a good cosmetic effect.
  5. Liquid nitrogen is characterized by high therapeutic efficiency. It can cause both destruction and death of tissue (for example, affected areas with acne), and contribute to the narrowing of blood vessels, improving complexion and tone.
  6. Darsonvalization: with the help of alternating currents of different frequencies, oily skin is eliminated, acne is cured, the face becomes younger and tightened. The skin takes on a healthy and fresh appearance and is tightened.
  7. Steam baths are one of the most affordable, but at the same time effective ways to cleanse your facial skin. Steam improves blood circulation, the skin becomes soft and smooth, the pores open and are cleaned of dirt, the skin becomes healthy, and its color improves. The duration of such procedures is 8-10 minutes and for oily skin they are carried out approximately 2 times a month.
  8. Mechanical cleansing is especially indicated for oily skin with clogged pores. With the help of mechanical facial cleansing, the upper stratum corneum and excess secretion of the sebaceous glands are removed. This is the most thorough of all cleaning methods, but it gives the desired result, although it is considered a little outdated.
  9. Vaporization: ozone has an antibacterial effect and activates metabolic processes in the skin. This cleanses the pores and improves blood circulation. The procedure can be carried out using infusions and herbs, which has an additional positive effect.
  10. Deep cleansing of oily skin should be carried out at least once a week, optimally twice. The best way to do this is peeling. Dead skin flakes that are not removed by regular cleansing can contain dirt, which further clogs the pores.
  11. It is very important to cleanse your skin correctly and systematically. This is a mandatory procedure before any cosmetic intervention and simply as daily care.

  • salon procedures. Visit a cosmetology clinic or beauty salon as needed. A professional will perform procedures that cannot be done at home. Find “your” cosmetologist. A good specialist is half the success.

Mistakes when caring for problem skin

  • water procedures with hot water.

It is possible to get rid of increased oiliness of the skin only with an integrated approach to treatment. Expensive cosmetics are not enough here.

Tips from cosmetologists:

  • review your diet;
  • pick up medicinal cosmetics at the pharmacy;
  • take care of your skin daily;
