Intarsia, knitted patchwork, modular knitting - the names are different, but the essence is the same; the canvas is assembled from separately connected pieces. If you know how to knit knit and purl, then everything else is not difficult at all.

We put loops on the knitting needles for one scale. It is advisable to knit one trial knit to correctly calculate the number of loops, because the lower part of the scale will bend in an arc during knitting and its length will become shorter due to this. We calculate the length by measuring from one lower corner to the other, in a straight line. I cast on 45 loops (any odd number is possible) per scale (yarn 50g - 135m) at the rate of 3 scales in length for the back and one and a half for the shelves.

Garter stitch (all rows are knitted with knit stitches). Nobody bothers you to knit with any patterns, but my threads are melange and the emphasis is on color.
We knit: 1st row - remove the edge, knit 43, knit the edge purl.
Row 2 - remove the edge, knit 2 together, knit 41, knit 2 together, purl the edge.
So we continue to knit two loops together, next to the edge loops in each row, and knit all the middle loops until there are 3 loops left on the knitting needle. We knit them together with the front one. We do not cut the thread, we leave the skein along with the scales.

In the same way we knit the second scale (a new skein/ball).

We knit the second row of scales from the upper edge loops of the lower rows in a checkerboard pattern. To get 45 loops again, we knit loops from the front and back walls.

The side half-scale is knitted in the same way (we cast on half the stitches, I have 23), only the loops in front of the side edge are not removed to create a smooth vertical edge.

This is how we collect the entire canvas. We do not break the threads, but begin to knit each subsequent scale from the previous thread.

Patchwork is an art for those who like to make a whole from parts. It requires perseverance, the need to read the diagrams and follow them, and at the same time, there is enough improvisation in this needlework. Patchwork has become a favorite technique for creating various home decorations - blankets, capes, bedspreads, potholders. In the kitchen, this technique is often used to make chair covers.

Knitted patchwork is based on garter stitch, which is convenient for calculations. The width of one loop is classically equal to the height of two rows, so it’s easy to draw a pattern on graph paper and calculate the loops and rows in each fragment.

Actually, a figure, for example, a square, is knitted in the usual way. And you need to knit a lot of such elements in order to then connect them with the same crochet. This is not difficult, but it requires rigor in calculations and perseverance.

If there is a cozy sofa in the kitchen, sooner or later you will want to “place” a warm blanket there. It can be crocheted using patchwork technology.

To create such a cute and bright patchwork blanket, you will need:

• several skeins of yarn in different colors,

The yarn will require wool or cotton threads. Hypoallergenic yarn is recommended if the blanket is intended for a baby.

It is better to choose skeins of bright, rich colors. At the same time, do not forget that any color accents must be balanced. Therefore, threads of milky color, light beige, sea sand or light yellow are needed to border the squares of the future blanket.

Step-by-step crocheting of a blanket:

• First of all, a circle of air loops is cast. The next three chain stitches will begin the first stitch, after which 2 double crochets are knitted.
• Then the scheme is as follows: two chain loops - three double crochets, repeat this twice, and by casting two more chain loops, the ends of the workpiece are connected.
• In the second row it is important to indicate the corners of the motif. Therefore, two chain loops are cast on between double crochets.
• The blanks require different patterns: some will have only two rows, others will have four, as well as six, eight, and finally ten rows.
• You can crochet the parts together arbitrarily, but it is better to use a special pattern.
• The simplest option is to change the color of the thread every two rows knitted.
• You can also use motifs of the same size.

If the same squares are used for the blanket, then the internal scheme of the motif may be more complex than described above. Actually, you need to take any pattern of a crocheted square, any pattern you like. You can leave the colors that are used in the original product, you can experiment. A small blanket consists of twenty large squares. For a kitchen sofa, such a blanket would be just right.

How to crochet a patchwork square - diagrams and description

The knitting pattern for such a square in patchwork style is as follows: In the center there is a small square, tied on all sides with multi-colored stripes. Each strip consists of 4 rows of single crochets.

We start knitting from the center, i.e. First we knit the central square:

Using yarn No. 1, cast on a chain of 8 chain stitches.

1st row - we begin to knit single crochets from the second loop from the hook to the end of the row (7СБН). Rotate knitting

Rows 2-8 – 1 VP lift, 7 sc
We cut the thread. Change the yarn color to No. 2.

Note! When knitting a square using the patchwork technique, in this case the instep loop is not counted as a stitch.

First and second stripes

Yarn No. 2. 1 VP rise, 7СБН (a column in each loop of the bottom row) we knit 4 rows. DO NOT cut the thread!
We do a VP lift. Turn the work 90 degrees and knit 12 sc along the long side of the central square (see photo below)
We knit a total of 4 rows in turning rows in this way.
We cut the thread, fasten it and switch to yarn No. 3

And we continue...

Third and fourth stripes

Yarn No. 3 must be joined on the other side of the central square. Those. into the 8th loop of the cast-on chain (see photo below)
Knit 4 rows of sc along the edge of the square, 12 sc each, starting the row with the lifting loop
We knit the fourth strip by analogy with the second. We turn the knitting 90 degrees and again knit 4 rows without a crochet, starting each row with a lifting chain loop along the side of the central square that has not been tied until this moment (16 sc)

We fasten and attach yarn of a different color No. 4 to the opposite corner, where we again knit first a strip along one side and then along the other side of the square

Fifth and sixth stripes

We attach yarn No. 4 to the last loop of the second strip and knit 4 rows of 16 sc along the edge of the piece, not forgetting to make a VP lift before starting each row. We do not cut the thread.
Turn the knitting 90 degrees and knit the sixth strip along the other edge according to the principle and similarity described above (18 RLS)
In this way you can knit indefinitely... or to the desired size of the motif
Or you can crochet not just one patchwork square, but several, subsequently combining them into some large product...

So what is patchwork or knitted patchwork?

Actually, in my understanding, the concept of patchwork refers exclusively to sewing...

Patchwork, patchwork technique, patchwork mosaic, textile mosaic (also patchwork, from the English patchwork - “blanket, bedspread, product made from multi-colored scraps”) is a type of needlework in which, according to the mosaic principle, a whole product is sewn together from pieces of fabric (shreds). In the process of work, a canvas is created with a new color scheme, pattern, and sometimes texture. Modern craftsmen also create three-dimensional compositions using the patchwork technique.

Everything seems to be suitable for knitting... and the fabric is sewn together according to the mosaic principle and there are new color solutions... there is just one problem: a new fabric using the patchwork technique, by definition, is created from pieces of fabric - shreds, and these are just leftovers from some sewn things or something cut into squares and triangles - they do not need to be woven before sewing into a new product...
